Plenty of genre television is out there right now for viewers at home to consume. But discovering that one that is so exceptional is truly an exciting thing. So you might stumble through Tales from the Loop or Locke & Key or Briarpatch and give up before you even get to the halfway point, but then you land on The Mandalorian and know what great genre television has the potential to be.
The new trailer from Disney+ is not, unfortunately, the trailer for Season Two of The Mandalorian, but it is something to watch for, for anyone that still maintains their subscription to the streaming service. Named for a decades old exhibition at Disneyland, Disney Gallery is a new Disney+ documentary series showcasing the studios’ series, and first up is Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau says in the trailer for the new series that “the enthusiasm is infectious,” and it’s fair to say any time you can watch producer/directors Favreau or Dave Filloni talk all things Star Wars that their enthusiasm is infectious for fanboys and fangirls.
Pretty sure that’s Andy Serkis working his motion capture skills with IG-11 during the production of The Mandalorian.
They both join episode directors Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Deborah Chow to discuss the ins and outs of production of the show, including that incredible method of filming with the wide-angle, background, video wall screen Lucasfilm seems to have perfected for the series. They join actors Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, and Gina Carano for roundtable discussions. Plus lots of images of Baby Yoda (aka The Child). But will images of him behind the scenes be too much? We’re betting many will just as soon not destroy the magic.
The “Moviemaking Magic of Star Wars” has been a big deal for Star Wars fans back to even before the original film premiered, so you can bank on the fandom being excited about this series. And–let’s face it–we’d all pay to watch a series simply following Baby Yoda gardening for eight hours. Take a look at this trailer for Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian:
Look for Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian only on Disney+ beginning on the annual Star Wars Day, May the Fourth 2020. Cross your fingers this series is included with the Blu-ray release of The Mandalorian.
